An ultrasound is often the first-line test for numerous abdominal and pelvic symptoms, looking at the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, uterus and ovaries. It can also be used to assess joints, muscles, tendons and the groin regions. The high resolution also make this the best test for the thyroid, testes and any lumps or bumps that you may be concerned about.
Ultrasound uses high intensity soundwaves to create images of the inside of your body. It is a safe test as it does not use x-ray radiation.
Warm gel is applied and the ultrasound probe pressed on to the skin. Live images appear on the ultrasound machine screen, which are interpreted by a specialist radiologist, to provide you with a diagnosis and give you the answers to your symptoms.
